Open Letter to Kline's 2nd District

A Open Letter to the 2nd District Constituents

As we approach April 15th, I'm sure a lot of people will be talking taxes. And of course, our Congressman John Kline will be patting himself on the back as the ultimate friend of the taxpayer.

But consider this.

For all of Kline's crusading against "pork", how much does that save you on your Federal Tax return? That money all goes to Washington, not one dime less because of Kline's "crusade".

And then consider this.

Not only are the Minnesota Super Bowl rings, we all started to get excited about, going to New Orleans, but a good portion of your Federal taxes are fixing levees in the bayou and not roads in Minnesota.

Not only are the former corporate offices of Northwest heading down to Atlanta as they become Delta Airlines, but your Federal taxes are helping Georgia build fire and EMS stations in Lumpkin and Sandy Springs, GA, and not emergency services in Minnesota.

Most Congressional Districts get some of that Federal tax money back in basic infrastructure via requests from local governments. The 2nd District requests fall on deaf and stubborn ears.

For all of Kline's boasting about "Stopping the Pork", it has not saved us one single dime in taxes and worse yet, not a single dime is coming back for needed district projects.

Nothing wrong with any of those other projects. Nothing at all. They are necessary and deserved. It is just to point out that 2nd District money is spread out over the entire country to help with their requested projects, but our own "requests" are ignored by a Congressman who thinks he is fighting "waste".

Am I really reading this piece on a "progressive" blog? Is there where "progressives" are, complaining about rebuilding bayous in New Orleans? How about harping on the $708 billion spent annually on the military, which DWARFS the military spending of any other country- in total sum or per capita, it's not even close, yet we still supposedly can't defeat a band of small-time Islamic extremists who are huddled in remote mountains on the other side of the world.

As a former (thankfully) resident of Kline's district, I'm as eager as always to see him go down. If we're gonna try and take him down, though, let's try and do it with some principles. It's pathetic to try and pander to anyone who would complain about attempts to help rebuild New Orleans. What an embarassment.

Could you refresh our memories and compare how the Congressional leaders reacted to Katrina, which was a God-made event that caused havoc on the waterway impacting the flow of goods as well as impact to the homes and businesses ... versus ... the I-35 Bridge collaspe ?
Did John Kline take the same approach as the Louisiana officials ... actually, did John Kline take the same approach as Tim Walz .... as I recall Kline and Walz appeared on TPT Almanac program defending thier different votes on a Transportation Bill that would fund –among other things– the final construction costs of the new 35W Bridge in Minneapolis. Kline called it “fiscally irresponsible.”
Do voters in the Second District think that it is really "fiscally irresponsible" to be investing in infrastructure elsewhere but not here ?
