Progressive Politics in Minnesota, the Nation, and the World

Second Poll Confirms: MN Doesn't Like Its Legislature

KSTP released a Survey USA poll that confirms a Public Policy Polling group poll regarding approval ratings for the Governor as compared to the Legislature.

Dayton: Approve 50% Disapprove 33%

Legislature: Approve 17% Disapprove 65%

Survey USA/KSTP are NOT liberally slanted.

One conservative blogger attributed this gap (or should I say chasm) to his idea that the Legislature is actually doing things while the Governor just sits in the Executive mansion and watches.

Well, if that was the case then I think that whatever the Legislature is doing should either stop or change. Clearly, the citizens of Minnesota are not "approving".

Maybe they don't like this new legislating by amendment gig. Maybe they think the State Senate should explain themselves. Maybe they think the partisanship should get toned down.

Whatever may be causing this approval gap, it is clear that the MN GOP Legislative Majorities are just shrugging their shoulders at it and will continue their agenda.

But the next time you hear Speaker Zellers and Leader Senjem say things to the effect..."the citizens of Minnesota want..", you are free to ignore it. Because obviously they are ignoring what the citizens of Minnesota want.

Note: It is worth noting that in this Survey, 51% of Republicans disapprove and 60% of self identified Tea Partiers disapprove.
