The 2nd Congressional District town hall meeting is on! Congressman Kline's office notified the organizers of the petition on Thursday that the meeting will be held. Here is the announcement from the group:
Fellow 2nd District Constituents:
There is great news to report! After our group’s six (6) long weeks of patiently meeting on a weekly basis with Rep. Kline and his staff, he has finally agreed, in an unprecedented fashion, to hold a public town hall meeting in the district in order to address constituents’ concerns about the U.S.’s open-ended military occupation of Iraq and possible expansion of military hostilities to Iran without congressional authorization. The meeting will be open to other constituent concerns and is scheduled for 7 to 9 pm, Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Lakeville High School South, 21135 Jacquard Ave , Lakeville , MN 55044 .
(From I-35, exit at Co. Hwy 70. Go East on Hwy 70 and turn left (north) on Jacquard Ave. The High School is on the left.)
It would be great to fill the Lakeville South High School auditorium with as many people having diverse interests and backgrounds as possible. The topics themselves, although non-partisan ones, are polarizing the country. But it is incumbent to have good discussion and dialogue if democracy is to prevail in our country and to resolve the current quagmire in Iraq . So it is hoped that a good discussion can be held to ascertain Rep. Kline’s exact positions on these important national security issues as well as other major issues facing the country.
We are counting on a lot of you who have already signed the peace petition to come and be heard on April 3rd. Also, please consider inviting friends and neighbors to participate. By alerting your news outlets (there is a press release available), writing letters to your local newspaper, e-mailing your friends, blogging and just spreading the word in your civic and church groups through conversation, you can encourage people to take responsibility for the policies in the country instead of just criticizing or worrying about them from the couch. In a democracy, we all are, to some extent, responsible for our future and now we have a perfect opportunity to be heard.
Since the costs of the Iraq War have been borne especially by veterans and military families, it is hoped that a number of such constituents will participate to provide their comments and opinions. The issues are many and critical and, as the national debt goes up and services are cut, our children’s future is on the line. There comes a time as other leaders in our country have said, when silence is betrayal. So please consider coming on April 3rd to the Lakeville South HS to hear Representative Kline answer constituents’ questions and provide his views of the current situation.
P.S. A special thanks to the nearly 700 of you who have signed the peace petition and the 50 or so who have braved the cold and other things to come to Rep. Kline’s office the last six Tuesdays. Your efforts are having an impact and you are to be commended. Any CD-2 resident (i.e. Dakota, Goodhue, Scott, Rice, LeSueur, Carver and southern half of Washington counties) who has not signed and wishes to do so, can respond to this e-mail with his/her/their names and cities of residence to peacepetition@gmail.com.
An online version of the petition has also been established where you can also add your name:
Petition Against the Surge and Request for Town Hall Meeting
Everyone is gratified that this important meeting could be worked out. We hope that everyone regardless of their positions on the topics of the day will come out and be heard.

“John Kline is a prick.”
“Kline is a low-life weasel.”
“Kline is a gutless coward.”
“How could a spineless worm like Kline have carried Reagan’s briefcase? It probably only contained Nancy’s panties.”
By allowing Bartlett to post blogs on your site only makes you guys facilitators of his disgusting behavior. I have read you and Truscott, Dave,
and both of you at least keep your comments out of the gutter. It’s time to cut the ropes with Bartlett if you want your blog to be taken seriously, even by your own protestor friends.
