Minnesota's Airport -- Not a "Nice" Place

What is it with the Twin Cities airport? That place isn't dangerous beause of any terror threats....it more dangerous because of the insane policies of its departments and customs.

Today's news about the treatment of the Finnish musicians is the latest in a series of incidents not exactly corroborating the "Minnesota Nice" tradition.

Of course, it is hard to forget the detention of the 6 Muslim Immams from last year.

Then of course we have the Larry Craig incident. Outside of the stupidity of Senator Craig, why are the airport police focusing on bathrooms and not on passenger safety?

Other incidents keep popping up. A Somali woman employee at the airport was fired because she refused to wear pants.

An Asian gentleman was detained and his laptap searched for over 4 hours because of suspected posession of "child pornography" even though he explained that his job was in technology and routinely did general searches which often brought in questionable material.

Then there is the jet fuel leaks a couple years ago, the airport noise controversy, and the dispute with the Muslim cab drivers.

If you are planning a trip through our wonderful airport... make sure you are white and anglo saxon, driving your own vehicle, have no carry on baggage, are not religious, and have good bladder control.

If you qualify, have a nice trip!

Oh, by the way.....let's hope the plane doesn't crash.

That's an incredible story. Something is seriously wrong with customs and immigration; e-mails, laptops, and body searches. They don't treat anybody with respect.-- is this really border security? Sounds more like dysfunctional bureaucracy.

Be carefull what you say in your e-mails too because customs will read those if your trying to come into the country. Yesterday i drove a friend down to pick up her fiance for a 3 month visit from england. They don't want to just get married for a visa so they were going to see how this trip went living together full time. After an hour and a half, in witch she was questioned 3 times very harshly. He was sent home on the next flight out of the country. She hasn't seen him in 2 months and wasn't able to for the two hours he was in the country. His family had to contact their embassy to call the MSP airport to find out why he was sent back because they wouldn't tell her anything. Turns out she'd e-mailed him about my offer to give him a few bucks to rap cables at a show, or a friend giving him some cash to take his fiance out if he painted. Customs read their e-mail and decided he was only here to work. They didn't give him the opportunity to contact a lawyer or his embassy here. He's now barred for five years and tagged on the FBI flight watch list.
