When It Comes To Guns - Why So Much Secrecy?

Category: Guns

by Dave Mindeman

I find this a bit disturbing....

What we don't know about guns in Minnesota:

The total number of guns in the state.
The amount of ammunition sold or owned.
The number of gun owners.
A breakdown of the types of guns sold in Minnesota.
The number of guns sold at gunshows.
The number of guns trafficked and sold illegally.

I realize that gun advocates get all paranoid if they know the government has them listed on some kind of gun listing, but the unknowns involved here are non-sensical.

We don't know how many gun owners Minnesota has? Really? I suspect that the 5th line in that list is the real culprit for many of those unknowns -- the gun show loophole.

I am fine with hunting weapons. I don't have a problem with purchasing a hand gun for "protection". I personally don't participate in these things, but I do not begrudge others having that right.

But the astounding lack of data regarding guns is, quite frankly, astonishing. We should know the amount of guns in this state and how many people own them. That is not an unreasonable request. We need information about what happens at gun shows - we just have to. What type of guns are out there? Why should that be a secret? And as for ammunition.....why is it a secret as to quantity and type?

And it is downright scary that no one (not even law enforcement?) has an idea about illegal trafficking.

What kind of mindset leads to this kind of information black hole?
